A king’s deadly vow meets Shahrazád’s inexhaustible storytelling. Merchants, jinn, fishermen, princes and resourceful women move through nested tales of danger, justice, generosity and desire. This is Volume I of Edward William Lane’s English translation, in the illustrated 1912 edition, with its original introduction and extensive notes. It includes the Merchant and the Jinnee, the Fisherman, the Ladies of Baghdád, the Humpback, and Táj-el-Mulook and Dunyà. Lane’s edition is selective; this volume does not contain the entire Thousand and One Nights.
