The first of three parts of a long social novel, the Ideal Hindu, by Mehta Lajjaram Sharma, which follows a married couple and their household through the customs, pilgrimages and quarrels of Hindu family life. Part one opens with their holiday in the hills and their wish for a son, and runs to chapter twenty-three.
