Johanna van Woude
1853–1904
Biography
Johanna van Woude was the pen name of Sophie Margaretha Cornelia van Wermeskerken-Junius, a Dutch woman writer who lived from 1853 to 1904. She was born in Tiel, the ninth child of a Protestant minister. In 1880 she married Johannes van Wermeskerken, and the couple had two sons. She died in Utrecht in 1904.
She worked as an editor. From 1889 to 1897 she was editor-in-chief of De Hollandsche Lelie, a magazine for young women, and in 1893 she was among the first women admitted to the Maatschappij der Nederlandse Letterkunde, the Dutch society for literature.
The catalogue holds her book Een verlaten post in its Dutch text. The source used for this page covers her life more fully than her writing, so the book itself is the best guide to what she wrote.
