Elisabeth Kuylenstierna-Wenster

1869–1933

Biography

Elisabeth Kuylenstierna-Wenster was a Swedish writer and translator. She was born in Nacka, outside Stockholm, in 1869 and died in Lund in 1933. She studied abroad, in France, Germany and Denmark, and contributed to magazines from the mid-1880s until about 1913. She later taught French, gave public lectures, and became a popular science lecturer in Lund. She often published under the pen name Sten Wide, or under her initials, EKW.

Her output was large. She published more than ten collections of short stories, over twenty children's books and around fifty novels, some of them studies of contemporary society and others historical novels, many built around the great figures of the seventeenth century. She also translated about seventy novels, most of them from Danish, which made her an important channel for Danish fiction in Swedish.
